Who has a right to a grant on social grounds?
To have the right to financial aid from the Ministry of National Education, or Higher Education and Research or from the Ministry of Culture and Communication, you must be less than 28 years old on the 1st of September of the University Year applied for and be following a recognized higher educational programme for grant-holders. The grants are awarded on the basis of three criteria : the taxable income of your household, the number of dependent children in the family and the distance of residence from the place of study. Taking these three criteria into account, a national scale indicates what grant can be awarded to students. In order to evaluate your chances of benefitting from a grant based on social criteria for the year 2017-2018, a grant simulator can be consulted. Fill in all the information requested and click on the calculation. Depending on the result which comes up, you can apply for a grant 2017-2018 directly on the application server of the ‘dossier social étudiant’ (DSE).
The grant application: the ‘dossier social étudiant’
The grant and/or housing application can be made even before having completed the examinations of the previous year or before choosing your future orientation. This is done through the Dossier Social Étudiant (DSE) which allows you to formulate up to 4 choices/options which can be in different academies. (N.B. the French word ‘academy’ is used to describe the administrative educational area composed of several departments). Each student can submit only one dossier even if he or she is candidate for entrance to several institutions or requesting several types of grant, in any academy.
