The CNOUS (Centre National des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) is a government agency, with a legal entity and financial autonomy.
Managed by Jean-François Cervel, who was appointed by a Prime Minister decree at the end of June 2006, the CNOUS is under supervision of the Ministry of National education and Research. The CNOUS manages and promotes the work of the 28 regional centers (usually one for each education district).
The CROUS (Centre régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) is also a government agency, with a regional authority.
Rhône Alpes manages both the CROUS of Grenoble and the CROUS of Lyon.
Managed by Dominique MARTIN, the CROUS of Grenoble handles 5 departments: Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Savoie and Haute Savoie. The CROUS is administered by a board of directors, led by the district education officer, and consists of 24 members, including 7 representative students elected every 2 years.
The CLOUS (Centre Local des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) of Savoie, located in Chambéry, improves the student services on a local level in Annecy, Jacob Bellecombette and Le Bourget du Lac.
